Sun Protection, Does it really matter?

While we need sunlight in our lives, over-exposure to the sun’s rays can be harmful for our skin! By now, most women in Malaysia are, hopefully, fully aware of the importance of using good sun protection products as part of their beauty regime. In fact, it should be a daily routine to apply some sort of sun protection before stepping out of your home.
Here are the reasons why you simply cannot afford to skip this step.

Protection against skin damage

The most important and most notable benefit of using a sun protection product on a daily basis is that it protects your skin against the sun’s broad spectrum of harmful UV rays. Sunscreen actually minimizes the penetration of UV rays into the skin and the triggering of a variety of skin disorders. It’s important to keep in mind that not everyone ‘feels’ it when a sunburn occurs. Also, even the mildest of sunburns can have damaging effects on your skin, which are not easy to reverse. So, protect your skin well, each and every day.

It helps to maintain an even-looking skin tone

One of the most telling signs of too much sun exposure on a person’s skin, especially the face and neck, is an uneven skin tone. This may be seen as patches of darker skin, or different tones in several areas of the face and neck. Regularly applying sun protection all over the face and neck will help even out your skin tone and give it a more balanced look – one that’s picture worthy, even close up!

Keeps skin safe from premature skin aging

Who wants to look older before their time? No one! In fact, we don’t want to look aged, period! What we do want is youthful, radiant, and healthy looking skin. However, overexposure to sunlight can increase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and it does not take much sunlight on a daily basis for the skin to start reaping these negative effects! Using a good sunscreen can help protect against the harmful effects of premature aging or skin aging and keep you looking younger, longer!

Reduces the risks of skin cancer

Let’s face it – while we can’t ignore the truth about the cancer-causing effects of the sun’s harsh rays on our skin, we can’t possibly stay indoors for the rest of our lives! A good sun protection product , such as a sunscreen, will be useful and effective in reducing the risk of developing a variety of skin cancers, especially the dreaded melanoma. This type of skin cancer is known to be extremely aggressive and can be life-threatening, particularly for those in their 20s. However, sun protection steps have to be taken daily to reap its protective benefits – over weeks and months!

An overall healthier skin appearance

Think balance when it comes to getting your share of sunlight, yet keeping safe from its damaging effects. By using good sun protection skin care products, you’ll be protecting the essential proteins in your skin – especially the keratin, the proteins that are primarily responsible for keeping the skin smooth and healthy.

But sun protection products are so oily!

Obviously, those who have such complaints have stopped using sun protection products since they were teenagers, for these products have come a long way since! Some modern products are even created to be water-based and light on the skin, yet they offer exceptionally good protection for the skin. If a sunscreen lotion or cream causes you to break out, it only means that there could be an ingredient (maybe even a natural or plant-based one), that simply does not agree with your skin – and that’s not unusual! Do keep in mind that no two products are exactly alike. All it takes a bit of effort in seeking out another sun protection product that you can use.
Fortunately for most people, a normal day does not include extended periods of time out in the sun. That means your daily sun exposure protection probably doesn’t need to be over 35 to 50 SPF. Having said that, it’s still a good idea to opt for a products that has broad-spectrum protection to ensure you are protected from all the sun’s harmful rays.

CONSIDER YOUR SKIN TYPE WHEN SELECTING A PRODUCT.

Allergy or acne-prone skin will benefit from fragrance and preservative-free products, while those with dry skin will want to seek out daily moisturizers with added sunscreen.
