This was not the first time that the hospital has held this community Zumba event. As a caring healthcare provider, CAH-C has taken upon itself to hold Sweat by the Lake as a monthly event starting August 2023. Its commitment in promoting healthy living has seen encouraging response from participants of all ages from Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Balakong, Cheras Perdana and more. The activities were in line with the National Sports Day objectives; to promote and to encourage physical activity and sport participation among communities. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle, as well as to foster a sense of unity and camaraderie through sports. The event also serves as platform to showcase various sports and provide opportunities for individuals to engage in different physical activities.
“Initiatives like this give our community a chance to be more proactive in caring for their health and wellness while also giving healthcare providers a chance to remind our community that prevention is better than cure,” said Columbia Asia Regional General Manager, Engku Marina Engku Hatim, on the purpose of Sweat by the Lake.
The one-hour Zumba session started at 7.30 am, led by an experienced instructor who is also a member of the local Cheras community. After the Zumba session, CAH-C wellness team provided complimentary health screenings to check blood pressure, blood glucose and fitness levels. The latter was carried out by CAH-C dedicated physiotherapist. On top of that, BCWA took the opportunity, since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to provide free breast cancer examinations to the public in order to raise awareness of breast cancer.
There were also fun community games that delighted the crowd, such as Kelapa Bowling, Anyam Ketupat, Timang Bulu Ayam andTren Kain Pelikat. Also present at the event were ADUN Balakong, YB Wayne Ong, Hulu Langat National Anti-Drugs Agency Chairman, Dato’ Hoh Hee Lee, Hulu Langat District Unity Officer, Ms. Norazila Sahak and MPKJ council, Ms Suzanah Hanim Wong. The dignitaries gave away prizes to game winners.
