A Celebration of “A Caring Heart” — From Nourishing Families to Nourishing Potential
In celebration of its 31st Anniversary, La gourmet concluded its “A Caring Heart” campaign with a RM100,000 contributions to Gem & Bread Special Needs Support Group, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to giving back and creating meaningful impact within the community.
More than a donation, the contribution is an investment in potential. The funds will support Gem & Bread in engaging specialised teachers and developing programmes to identify and nurture the unique abilities of autistic children and adults — from art, baking and cooking to music and practical skills — creating pathways towards greater confidence and independence.
“Instead of asking what they cannot do, we should ask: What CAN they do? Then give them the support and opportunity to do it well,” said Jean Yeap, Managing Director of La gourmet & Katrin BJ Group of Companies.
This belief was brought to life through Yaya, a young autistic artist whose drawings were featured on La gourmet’s 31st Anniversary Collection. Her story demonstrates how recognising an individual’s abilities can transform talent into confidence, purpose and opportunity.
La gourmet’s journey of supporting the autism community began 12 years ago with Akhtar, a talented 15-year-old autistic boy from NASOM. This marked the beginning of a meaningful commitment that led to the Skill-Development Fund initiative in 2014.
Today, “A Caring Heart” continues that commitment to skill development and empowerment. Through this initiative, we hope to identify and nurture individual talents, develop meaningful skills, and create opportunities for greater confidence and independence.
The impact we hope to create in the years ahead goes far beyond what we see today. La gourmet has always believed that a responsible business should go beyond creating products and profits — it should use its resources, partnerships and reach to uplift communities, create opportunities and make a lasting positive impact on society.
