Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) has achieved a major recognition with its first-time inclusion in Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027 ranking.

The hospital was ranked No. 1 in Malaysia for Paediatrics, with Oncology recognised as a standout treatment within the specialty.
The milestone comes as SMC expands its specialised paediatric services with the opening of Tower F, the hospital’s dedicated Children’s Tower, further strengthening its ability to provide comprehensive, integrated and family-centred care for children.
The global ranking places SMC among leading hospitals worldwide as part of a global ranking covering 13 medical specialities, including Mayo Clinic – Rochester (United States), Cleveland Clinic (United States) and Johns Hopkins Hospital (United States).

Building on this commitment to specialised care, SMC houses a Children’s Health and Development Centre encompassing a comprehensive range of paediatric subspecialties. The newly opened Children’s Tower further enhances SMC’s paediatric capabilities with an expanded range of paediatric subspecialties and services within a purpose-designed environment.
The hospital also pioneered the country’s first dedicated 24-hour Children’s Walk-in & Emergency Department in a private hospital, providing urgent, comforting care for infants, children and adolescents, alongside a comprehensive Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and specialised inpatient wards.

The recognition in Paediatrics is particularly significant as SMC expands its dedicated services and facilities to meet the healthcare needs of children across different stages of care.
Beyond clinical capabilities, Tower F has been thoughtfully designed with a child- and family-centred approach, featuring age-appropriate furnishings, vibrant child-friendly environments and views of surrounding green spaces and attractions. Together, these features support SMC’s holistic approach to paediatric care, considering the needs of both children and their families.
This latest achievement in the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027 ranking, which also ranked SMC No. 1 in Malaysia for Neurology and awarded it a high ranking for Oncology, further strengthens SMC’s standing across Newsweek’s healthcare rankings. This follows SMC’s recognition for the fourth consecutive year in Newsweek’s Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026 rankings, earning distinctions across eight specialties, including Paediatrics, Oncology and Neurology.
SMC was also ranked No. 1 in Malaysia in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals rankings in both 2025 and 2026 and was recognised as Malaysia’s top hospital in Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026 ranking.
As Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital and the flagship hospital of Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG), SMC is home to more than 300 resident medical consultants across 80 medical specialities and 28 Centres of Excellence.
Following the opening of Tower F, the hospital’s licensed bed capacity has expanded to 961 beds, further strengthening its capacity to provide complex and specialised care across a broad range of medical disciplines.
SMC is also the first private hospital in Malaysia to attain three major hospital-wide accreditations: the Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval from the United States, Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International accreditation, and Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) accreditation.
The World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027 ranking assessed hospitals based on three key pillars: international peer recommendations from healthcare professionals, relevant speciality-specific accreditations and certifications, and the implementation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). The methodology provides a global benchmark for specialised expertise.
